Hi Mike,
I 've been meaning to write you for a long time in order to thank you and recommend other people GSPs and especially your kennel. We got our  male GSP in August and we couldn't be more happy with our choice. His name is Mishu and now is almost 8 months old and a little bit over 50 lbs. We got many compliments ranging from "that's a beautiful dog" to " that's how a dog should look like." But it's not only about the looks. He is a great dog with a happy-go-lucky personalty. We never had any issues with him. He's friendly with other dogs and humans alike, curious and picks up on discipline very quickly.  We are not using him for hunting, he's just a city and family dog and as long you take him out he's happy. We live in Chicago and we are lucky to have a big park near our house and he's always off leash, always comes when called. I must say that it's a dog that needs discipline and boundaries in order to get the best of him.We had babies and small kids around him and he's doing fine. We are confident that he's going to be a great big brother when his sibling arrives this summer!
Thank you again for such a great dog!

Mike,

Toffee will be 5 in 2010. she still is about the fastest dog at our dog park.

She does rule our little Visla. Someday I will convince my wife to get a 3rd dog.

Hey Mike,
Just wanted to send you a video of sassy in action.  She is a little over 5 month's and doing great in the field and in agility. Last week we went to Kankakee State Park got a bird, she did great!. On the home front she awesome no problems on walks or in the house. Ill send you more video's as she progresses.
                                                                                             Sincerely,
                                                                                                Austin

Hi, Mike. We have been planning to give you an update on Kylee Mabe. She is almost one year old now and she is doing great. Can't imagine what it was like when she wasn't around. She's turning into quite the bird dog. She loves the snow and keeps us hopping. We are truly grateful for Kylee and don't be surprised when we make a trip back for a playmate!  Here's a couple pictures for you.

PS. All three dogs, Bally (Paul Dee), Lacey (Kerry Dee) and Kylee get to spend a lot of time together. Kylee and Bally get out as a team of late to hunt birds. They are all such great dogs!
Thanks and happy holidays to you, Lori and John

Mike,

This is Chloe's first grouse hunt and retrieve the very first day of the hunt.  We were in Phillips, WI on the week of October 9th.  She located the bird and retrieved to hand! What a great moment.  I do not have a picture but she also located and retrieved to hand a woodcock.  The guide said that if he were not there, he wouldn't have believed it.  As you know she wasn't even five months yet!  Prior to this hunt, she had retrieved dead and crippled quail, dead pheasants and a duck from water.  The weather in Phillips was very cold and miserable.  We had five inches of snow on the ground.  I wanted to take her  waterfowl hunting with us but thought it may be a little overwhelming for her, even though she jumped into the lake from the dock.  Since then we have been on numerous hunts where she has pointed and retrieved pheasants and chukars to hand.  Twice she has honored the point of another dog.

                                                       Thank you,

                                                      John

Just wanted to drop you a note and update you on "Lucy's #2"  that we bought earlier this year.  We named her "Liv".   Tomorrow, 11/11, she will be a year old.

Liv is a beautiful dog.  She's a very good traveler in the car.  When we walk her people stop to comment on her.  We don't hunt so we walk her on a nature trail.  She's a very quick learner but still has alot of puppy in her.   Liv is actually a little smaller than this picture shows, somewhere between 40-45 pounds.  I think it is just the angle that I took it.

Thought you would enjoy seeing her.  pf

I sent you a note the other day updating you on Liv.  For your records I was mistaken on her weight.  We weighed her today and she is 38 lbs.

I was just going to drop by and say thank you, for the GSD you sold us for our anniversary last year! He is an amazing dog, and fits perfectly with our family! Our son is now 17 months, and he and Lincoln are the absolute best of friends. The beginning was a little rough with housebreaking, but mostly because I had never had a puppy before. After that hurdle, he was amazingly easy to train. He knows well over a dozen commands and all of the hand signals that go along with them. I don't even have to verbalize to him! He is starting to come out of his puppy phase now, and is the best dog anyone could ask for. I am fully confident that when we have our next child, I do not have to worry about how he will react. He is so awesome with kids! We hope to be training for our CGC soon. Every weekend, and sometimes during the week, we head off to the forest preserves and I never have to worry about going there alone. Lincoln loves the woods, but isn't too fond of strangers (mostly men) coming too close to me, which is great! He is always looking out for our family and I feel safer with him in the house. He has daily playdates with 'the girls next door', which include a 4 yr old lab mix and a 7 mo old whippet mix. He runs and plays with them for hours and even wears out the whippet! He is such a blessing to have in our home!

I also wanted to get your recommendations for a couple of things. What type of adult food do you suggest for him? What type of training can I do at home to better prepare him for the CGC? I really want to train him to be a therapy dog, because I feel that it would be a great experience for our whole family. It would give him a purpose, teach my son tolerance, and help me to help others (and get out of the house more often!) Do you have any suggestions on less expensive training programs, or how I could maybe get a hospital to sponsor him?
Also, he thinks the cat is another dog he can play with.
Thanks for all of your help!
Heather

Mike,

I wanted to make sure to send you a quick note about Gunner as we closed out the 2009/2010 pheasant season yesterday.  At 10 months old Gunner has been an amazingly quick learner with an incredible nose.  During this hunting season everything you had mentioned to me during our orientation about how your dogs work, etc took place.  Gunner is a very good close hunter and he works the whole line of hunters no matter how many there are. He's all puppy before the hunt with the other dogs but when the lead comes off, he's all business in the field and works well with other dogs but is extremely focused on the birds.  There were several times this season when dogs we were hunting with would pass up an area and Gunner would come up to that area and point a bird.  Just yesterday we worked a field rimmed with timber and as the other dogs kept to the grasses at the edge of the field Gunner went into the timber that had been passed over by the other dogs and pointed 4 birds. From the time he's been about 7 months old, he's found more birds than any dog that we've been on a hunt with. I can't wait to see how good he's going to be when he hits his prime.

As a casual hunter I was satisfied getting a dog that would just be fun to watch work but he's much more and his drive and enthusiasm for hunting gets both of us lots of compliments.  People can't believe how good he is and how patient he is at holding a point at such a young age.  I've been busy and haven't had as much time as I'd like to do continuing training with him but hunting an average of every other weekend seems to be all he needs to stay sharp and he gets better and better every time out.  I'm really looking forward to many great years of hunting with Gunner and wanted to make sure you knew how satisfied we are with him as not only a hunter but as a companion for our older malamute and us.  Everything you said about how he'd work and react to different things, whether it be in the field or at home, you were 100% right about.

Thanks,

Tom
Dear Mike,

I just wanted to say on behalf of my Wife and I, that we couldn't be happier with our puppy.  We got her from Misty and Ruger and she is an unbelievable dog.  She has an incredibly kind, and gentle disposition, and is remarkably smart.  Every where we go she is complimented on her coat, eyes, and all around demeanor.  We are truly grateful for all of your help.  You have wonderful dogs and a great facility.  We visited with several other GSP breeders and none of their dogs compared to yours.  If you ever need a referral, or anything at all, please don't hesitate to ask.  Thank you again.

Mike:

I thought I would take some time to send you some newer pictures of Peyton.  I hope you remember my wife and I.  We bought Peyton from you in Jan of 2006 and live in Wisconsin.  I visited your site and saw that he was still out there on the training page from 2006.  So you can make the changes on your website, the Title that he earned last fall was "NAVDA Natural Ability Prize III".  We are currently training him to take his "NAVDA Utility Dog I" hunting test.  During this test, he must actively perform a duck search from 20 minutes in and out of the water, stay steady to shot when shot over, retrieve a dead duck from the water after the shot, and lastly successfully point, stay steady to shot, and retrieve a minimum of 4 pheasants from the field in 30 minutes.  We will run him in this test sometime in late fall or early next spring.  He has been an excellent dog.  His temperament as a house pet has been fantastic.  He is extremely docile with all people and has been extremely easy to train.  His "prey drive" has been great as well and has become a lot of fun to hunt with in the field.  He gets excited as soon as I get the gun case out.  My wife has started taking him to agility training about 8 months ago and he loves it.  He is not afraid to jump on or over anything and he extremely loves to climb things.  This has been great in the field since he is not afraid of any terrain now.  We have received numerous compliments on his temperament, markings and general behavior.  He has grown to be about 25 inches at the shoulders and to about 59 pounds.  Not quite the big dog we all thought he would be, but he is extremely fit and muscular, so it has been a blessing.  All and all he is a great dog and I would recommend your kennel and this particular bloodline to anyone who is looking to pick up a new shorthair.  Please feel free to use my wife or me as a reference for anyone you may deal with who would like to talk to a former customer.  Please enjoy the pictures.

Sincerely,
Jim & Tracy

Hi Mr. Mabe. Its Lisa. I bought Porter from you  a few months ago and just wanted to check in and tell you how wonderful he is doing. Wherever we go, everyone that sees him just awes over him and asks what kind of dog he is. The question is always proceeded by how gorgeous he is. I completely agree. Mike and I couldn't be happier with our decision to get our dog through you Mr. Mabe.

He can be rambunctious at times, but what puppy isn't. He just finished his puppy shots and got his first rabies the other day. We have been taking him to the park every other day to play. I walk him a good couple miles and then he wants to come home and play some more ! He found a new friend at the park too. His name is Rocky Jr., who is at least a good hundred pound black Lab. There is a pond there and they jump in and swim together. It is so cute. So all in all We love our little crazy puppy. Thank you for making it possible for us to be so happy and proud of this bundle of liver and roan. I included some pics so you can see how beautiful he is.

Sincerely, Lisa and Mike From Scott, LA.

Hello,

I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how pleased I am with my GSP I purchased from you.  His name is Brownie, but you all will know him as Male 1 - Litter 1, born in July of 2005.  He is now fully trained and is nothing short of amazing to hunt behind!  He is a relentless, close working hunter with a fantastic nose and a beautiful staunch point.  In the field he is all business, but in the house he is as sweet as the day is long.  He and his "brother" Boomer (my other GSP) are inseparable, and make a formidable team in the field.  I have attached a few pictures of a recent quail hunt we went on and a pic or two of him around the house.  Enjoy.

Hi Mike,

Just wanted to share with you a few new pictures of Cabo.  He is just a little over 4 months old now.  He is still melting our hearts!

We hope you and your family enjoy the Holiday Season.

Jason and Julie

Hi Mike!

Jason and I just wanted to say Thank You VERY much for bringing such a wonderful addition to our family!  Cabo puts a smile on our face every single minute of the day.  He is adjusting very well to his new home.  The first night being away from his brother's and sister's was a bit strange for him.  He cried every 45 minutes!  Needless to say, he wasn't the only one who didn't sleep that night!  However, going forward, he has slept through the night EVERY night since!  As well, by day 3, he was scratching at the front door to go outside to "do his business!"  We couldn't believe it!  He hasn't had an accident in the house in almost a week.  In just a couple of weeks, he has learned so much!  One of his favorite things to do is to run up and down the stairs!  It not only tires him out, but me too!  What a workout!  I've lost 6 pounds since we brought him home!  I am looking forward to the long walks!  We started Puppy Kindergarten class 2 weeks ago and he is doing such a great job!  Cabo knows how sit, stand, watch, come, stay, and how to socialize with other puppies.  He is also learning how to walk on a leash.  He tends to be the class clown, but it makes for an eventful evening!  I think he is fully aware of how cute and charming he is!  We hate having to put him to bed every night, but we look forward to waking up with him in the morning!  He normally wakes up around 5:30AM (YIKES!), but it's so easy to get out of bed knowing how excited he is to see us...and we are to see him.  It makes the mornings so worthwhile!  Just when you think life can't get any better, Cabo comes into our lives!  He has such a wonderful temperament, is well mannered, and playful.  When Jason or I have had a bad day at work, as soon as we walk in the door and see that tail wagging, the worries of the day simply go away.  Thank you again for bringing him into our lives.  He just melts our hearts!

Sincerely,

Julie and Jason

One word Mr. Mabe excellent. I am completely satisfied with the dog that we bought  from you.

Lisa and Paul bought Toffee in March of this year.  They also had Toffee trained with our basic obedience package.

Mike,

Toffee is doing great!  she weighs exactly 40 pounds.   The perfect size.  She has chased our Vizsla out of our bed and sleeps with us ( under the covers).    I run her 1-2 time a day at a park 1/4 mile away from my house.

She never seems to  tire although she sleeps real well!  She does not bark at any other dogs except our Vizsla whom she want to play with but is too old to bother.  Hope you have a

Hi Mabe Kennels~

We have been having a blast with our puppy....his name is Ramadi.  We chose the name because my husband is deployed with the Army to Ar Ramadi, Iraq, so it was fitting!  He is a very smart dog and is learning new tricks and is doing very well with obedience training.  Ramadi is very birdie and loves to go exploring on our walks.  He is great with our kids, ages 4 and 2; he loves to be outside with them as they are blowing bubbles, he tries to catch the bubbles.  We are very happy with our dog from Mabe Kennels and have recommended Mabe Kennels to other people here on the Vineyard who are looking into getting a beautiful Pointer Pup.  Ramadi loves to climb into my daughter's doll stroller which is outside, you will find him sleeping in the stroller all the time, he loves to be pushed around in the stroller as well!!  Quite a dog!  He loves people and has an excellent temperament!  Thank you so much!

Mr. Spitz was one of our puppies sired by Rodeo.  Mr. Spitz later became a service dog that worked with physically or learning disabled children and adults.   Below is a letter from his owner.

related to Mr. Spitz

The owners of  Mr. Spits came back to buy another dog four and a half months ago.  This is a letter from the owners of  Marshall Dillon.

Hi Mike,

How is your girl?  Thought I'd give you an update on Marshall Dillon.  He is growing into a wonderful boy.  At 4 1/2 months the basic obedience commands are not a problem.  HE PLAYS FETCH and brings it back. Dillon also plays hide and seek.  He is starting to understand what "find it" means and is discriminating between toys and getting the one we were using.  He is friendly and outgoing.  My vet is convinced he is the smartest dog I have brought him yet.

We are enjoying him so much.  I just started him in an obedience group class.  That is going well.  I am also taking him on a training weekend on the 18th of this month.  Its called Camp Dogwood.  We will be able to take a couple of agility classes along with Frisbee and some Touching.  Don't worry, we don't leave the ground until he is two.

He has been going to Therapy Group since January.  He won't be certified until later, but the socialization is great.  He shows potential for Therapy work.  He is not afraid of anything and loves to be with people.  Anything he has been afraid of has been easily overcome.  He had a problem with a BIG electric wheelchair.  It took 2 minutes of exposure and reassurance and he was walking along side the man in the chair.

I have told you how wonderful he is personally.  Dillon is also a very nice looking boy.  He is colored like Shasta, but still has Rodeos eyes.  He weighs about 40lbs.  Dillon has a nice build, low and long, with a slight angulation.  His ears are standing and under his control, although you can tell he still needs to grow into them. Dillons head is square and thick.  It's going to be a nice head. I was thinking about showing him for conformation in a small show in Dekalb in April and then having him neutered.  I will send you a picture.

Let me know about the girl you kept.  What is her name?

I miss Spitz every day.  Thank you, we really appreciate Marshall Dillon.  I believe Ann does too.

Mike and June Mabe;

Thanks again for the puppy we obtained from your kennel.  We picked him up Febuary,05,2004 with snow covered landscape.  My wife Tee and I enjoyed visiting with Mike at your kennel.  It was difficult for my wife to pick from all the good looking puppies, but her pick was a male offspring of Sir Dudder von Mabe and Lil Dash of Pepper of Mabe .  I found training him was easy and rewarding.  He is now a family member.  Gumbo and our older male German Shorthaired Pointer get along well together.  Now 5 mths. old he knows all of the following commands: No, sit, stay, eat, outside,  (he stays inside at night) come, quiet, truck, heel (on leash), kennel ( inside we have a crate and outside I have a kennel).  I have started working him on fetch and he readily points the bird wing I got from you.  Gumbo likes the water and enjoys biting the water from a garden hose.

My wife and I look forward to getting another dog from you latter this year.  Enclosed is a photo of  Gumbo.

                                                          Thanks Again,

                                                             Mike Delatte
